Competition Page:

Not all of our club members feel inclined to enter images into competitions. However, although it is not in the nature of the club to press members to enter these competitions, they are a very important aspect of our activities. Entering your images into competitions is a sure method of comparing the standard of your own work with that of other members and, also, to improve your own work. Wetherby & District Camera Club (WDCC) run these various internal competitions throughout the season.

The Ingram Series Trophy is, in fact, two on going competitions (one for Club class members and one for Advanced class members), running in parallel throughout the season. The series consists of five rounds, each of a different theme, and is open to entries of print, slide and/or digital images.

The Sherburn, Bob Evans Raffles, and Dean Brothers Trophy competitions are open to all club members, and are for mono prints, colour prints and slides/digital images respectively, to be displayed and judged in sets of three.

The Les Smith Natural History Trophy is, again, open to all club members. As the title suggests, this competition is for images of Natural History subjects in their natural environment. It therefore excludes zoos, aviaries and similar. It does include such as wild flowers, trees and wild animals, etc. Your pet cat or dog, no matter how annoyed it is, cannot be a subject! Entries for this competition are restricted to slides or digital images only.

The Chairman’s Challenge is for all images (print, slide and/or digital). The specific subject for this competition is chosen, and judged, each year by the Chairman.   Generally, all our internal competitions are judged by invited, qualified external judges and/or by members of the club’s own judging panel.   For more detailed explanation of each competition, please refer to the competition rules sheet, issued with your competition number when you joined the club. If your copy has gone “AWOL”, or you wish further enlightenment, please see the Competition Secretary (or visit the downloads' page).

It is particularly important to become familiar with the rules in respect of image titling. This requirement is very important, particularly for Natural History and Record entries.

Besides the internal competitions, WDCC enjoys entry to an Interclub Competition. This is an external event contested by clubs, rather than individuals. Every year there are four rounds, each round hosted by a different club. Each round of the competition consists of Theme and Set subjects plus three other images of a general nature. The five images used for each round are selected from those submitted by club members. In order for the club to do well in the competition, as many good quality images as possible are required for the selection process, especially in the general category.

See, also, the dates noted in the Club Programme Card.   I would like to challenge each club member to enter at least one image or set of images into an internal competition and to submit at least one image for consideration for selection to represent WDCC in the Interclub competition during the year.
