Accessibility:

The aim of our site is to be as legible as possible whilst giving a good deal of information. It meets most external requirements for accessibility and uses a sans-serif font which is said to be the most easily read. The font size is quite large and the line spacing has been "opened out".

If, however, you still find the text size chosen too small, then you can take the following steps:

In Internet Explorer:

  1. Open the View menu Select Text Size Select a larger text size - larger or largest if your default is medium sized text.
  2. Continue browsing

Using Mozilla Firefox

  1. Increase the text size by holding down the CTRL key and pressing +
  2. Decrease the text size using CTRL -

Using Opera

  1. Open View menu in browser
  2. Select zoom and choose a magnification greater than 100%

Take care when using some methods to view larger text as it can destroy the formatting of any page in any web site. The Opera zoom facility appears to work well. If you are frequently resorting to the settings in your browser to view larger text, please let me know using the contact link below.

Browser choice:

The choice of web browser is very personal and we hope that this site will be usable within any of the common browsers and it is tested using Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera.

Viewing this site in a version of IE earlier than 6, however, is likely to lead to page formatting and layout problems as these are not CSS compatible.

For Internet Explorer users it is recommended that they use version 7 or even IE8 (beta version) with their greater Cascading Style Sheet compatibility.

The site works well with Firefox and in Opera both of which are reportedly highly compliant with CSS standards.

AOL users still using Netscape should note the advice from AOL to move to Firefox as their browser.

Go to the links page, then useful links page, to download the latest versions of these browsers.

Finding your way around the site:

There have been some changes in the location of various pages within main sections of the site.

If you have problems finding the page you need, please use the Site Map link above where every page is listed as an active link. The inclusion of this page is likely to be a temporary one until members are familiar with the layout of the site.

Galleries:

Currently all galleries use the JAlbum software and a light box type format called the Matrix Skin.

On opening the gallery, you should see a matrix of image thumb nails. In order to progress through the gallery then:

  1. Click on the first (or any other) thumb nail. This will open a full size version of the image.

Clicking again on an open image will reduce it back to a thumbnail
  2. To move through the images, use the arrow keys on your key board
  3. Use right arrow to go to the next image etc.
  4. On reaching the last image, the large image should fade and then use the link to return to the gallery page (or use your browser's back button).

Investigation of other gallery types is continuing.

Links:

Links to external web sites or to other pages within this site are denoted in a standard way throughout the site.

  1. A link to a site/page which you have not yet visited is a lighter blue.
  2. A link over which you hover your mouse turns
    white against a grey background.
  3. A link to a page/site which you have recently visited is denoted by a purple font.

Wherever you find text in light blue, this indicates a live link to another page or an external site. This is an increasingly standard way of showing links but if you find it confusing please let me know.

Links to pages external web sites and PDF files open in a new window each time. Close the window to return to this site. Navigating between pages on this site does not open new windows.
